How to hide views on Instagram

First decide what you are hiding

As the table shows, the only thing a setting controls is the like count. Everything else either cannot be hidden or does not need hiding.

Case one: staying out of a viewer list

Instagram has no setting that removes you from a story’s viewer list. The moment the story appears on your screen, the receipt goes to the author.

The only working approach is opening the story from something other than your own account. Then there is nothing to hide: nothing happened under your name.

Why airplane mode is unreliable

The trick is well known: wait for loading, switch the network off, scroll through. In practice the app queues the receipt and sends it once the connection returns. It works about half the time.

Case two: removing the counter under your own posts

Here options do exist, though fewer than people expect.

Likes can be hidden

1. Open your post and tap the three dots in the corner.
2. Choose Hide like count.
3. The number disappears for everyone except you.

The setting can also be switched on in advance for all new posts: settings hold a single toggle for it.

The likes themselves stay where they are, and you still see who left them. Only the number is hidden from outsiders.

Reel views cannot be hidden

The view counter on videos and reels cannot be removed; no setting was built for it. It stays visible to everyone who opens the post.

The only way to hide it entirely is making the account private, at which point the post itself becomes unavailable to outsiders.

Why people hide the like count at all

The setting was not added by accident: the platform itself acknowledged that a public like count weighs on people. Three reasons come up most often.

To stop comparing yourself with others

The most common one. When the number is public, a post turns into a grade rather than a way to share something. Hiding the counter lifts that weight while you keep seeing both the number and the list.

So the audience looks at the content

People judge a post by its like count before they have read a word of it. Without the counter the first impression comes from the material itself.

To hide a slow start

A debatable reason, but a real one. Worth remembering that reach does not change: the setting hides a number, it does not affect distribution.

What only you can see

Some questions about hiding views answer themselves: that data is shown to nobody anyway.

• The viewer list of your story. Only you see it. Neither the viewers nor outsiders can open it.
• Who visited your page. No such list exists at all, so there is nothing to hide.
• Your search history. Stored only for you and shown to nobody.
• What you watched in the feed. Displayed nowhere, including on your own profile.
