Where the archive is
- Open your own profile.
- Tap the menu in the top right corner.
- Choose Archive.
At the top there is a switch between sections. There are three: the story archive, the posts archive and the live archive. The first one opens by default.
Everything inside is visible to you alone. Followers know neither that the archive exists nor that you moved something into it.
Three sections and how they differ

The story archive runs itself
Every story moves there automatically after a day, with nothing for you to do. That is where old stories come from when people add them to Highlights later.
One condition applies: the saving setting has to be on. It is on by default, but if you ever switched it off, stories from that period were never saved and cannot be retrieved.
Check the setting in advance rather than at the moment you need an old story. It lives in the archive section as a “Save to archive” toggle.
How to move a post to the archive
- Open the post in your profile.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Choose Archive.
The post leaves the feed and your profile but is preserved whole: caption, tags and comments included. Nobody receives a notification.
The move is useful when a post no longer fits the profile, has aged, or simply stopped appealing to you. Deleting it is not required.
How to bring a post back
In the posts archive find the one you want, tap the three dots and choose showing it on the profile. It returns to its original place by date rather than to the top.
Likes and comments stay exactly as they were before archiving. Counters are not reset.

The simplest way to remember: the archive hides, Highlights display, deletion erases. The gap between the first and the third matters most, because deletion is final while archiving is fully reversible.

What the archive never saves
This is where a false sense of safety usually forms. The archive keeps content but does not keep connections.
- Following and follower lists. Not in the archive at all, in any form.
- Other people’s posts. Only your own can be archived.
- Direct messages. Unrelated to the archive.
- Broadcasts older than 30 days. Live recordings are kept for a limited time.
The first line is the painful one. People assume the archive saved everything and discover the loss only once a list of several hundred names is beyond recovery.
